Dunlop Aquajet Tire thoughts

Post by twodoor64 »

I'm think about buying a set of Dunlop Aquajet 145sr-10 tires.... I was wondering if anyone has used this tire and welcome your opinion.

I ran this tyre on my 1275GT. Here they are mounted on the standard 4.5" steel wheel.

Originally when I got the car it had 165/70 Yokohama A008 tyres, which always looked wrong to me. After fitting the 145/80 Aquajets the car had much lighter steering and seemed to have a softer ride. I never noticed any real difference in grip, but I never drove the car in a manner where grip would become an issue. For normal road use there are a good tyre but next time I am in the market for some 145/80 x 10 tyres I will be trying the new Blockley tyre. Also there is a new Yokohama 145/80 10 tyre, due on the market very soon, to consider.

Aquajets are expensive and I found the sidewalls a bit weak.... have 145 Blockleys on now with 4.5” rim and they seem a great tyre for the money...

Snoopy64. Blockleys.... How are they in the rain? Are your 4.5 rims steel and are you running tubes?

My car came with Yokohama Advan HF A008 165/70 on Minilight alloys. I quickly changed to Dunlop Aquajet 145/80 on original LP883 steels.

Not only do they look much nicer IMHO, the steering is much more direct.

Wear and grip seem fine in the ~3 years and ~8k miles since fitting. Only driven once in the rain, but that was a torrential downpour and they had no problems at highway speeds.

I'd definitely buy them again, even at the high cost. Purchased from Mini Sport (yeah, I know, I usually avoid them too) as the shipping to the states was cheapest.

I've run the Dunlops for 6 years on mine, I like them, they are good in the wet and have survived 4 MK1 performance days. I am looking to replace them as the track days have weathered them a little on the outer edge.

However, the main reason i chose them is they look spot on (standard early pickup) I am now pondering the Blockleys but need to see them on a few more cars.....was planning to do this at Blyton this year.
