Signal/Indicator Switch plastic housing

Post by canadianminimk1 »

Hello, I was wondering if anyone makes or has tried to re-make the plastic housing on the
Signal/Indicator switch for a Mk1 that is usually knackered from the sun I guess. The part the little green or white lens screws into. Also wondered what the thread is on the end? 7/16" NC or ?

Thanks,

Andrew

Minimania use to do a repair kit which included the black plastic housing and a bulb.
Will check their website ....

I have a damaged light on the end of the indicator stalk, a previous owner made a poor replacement

Does anyone know of a repair kit? Mini mania no longer do one.
Or has anyone successfully made a replacement?
Or does anyone have a spare arm off a broken switch?
I don’t want to spend £60 for a new switch just for the light!
Many thanks Gordon

There is a bloke here in Australia who repairs and restores these. Did one for me and I was happy with the result. Cost of fully refurbishing my original was less than a Chinese replica. I could fish out details if interested? Although surely someone in the UK does this too? I also recall seeing kits a while ago with a replacement black plastic end for fitting at home... But no idea where that was sourced from.

We have been refurbishing these for well over a year now...we take your old dated base and completely rebuild the item.
You end up with a stalk that has new components with your original dated dbase.
Here is an example of an 8/62 unit we did for a client. Everyone who purchased these were extremely satisfied.

I used to buy the black bodies from a guy in Aus & refurb them. Haven't done any for years though.

I have been fiddling about with my indicator stalk today and have effected what I believe is a reasonable repair. This is how the switch was when I bought the car & before I had done anything with the switch.

The switch itself worked fine apart from the warning light not working and the previous repair looked shite!

The chrome on the arm was in a bad state, so I sanded it down and used black heat shrink.
I found a miniature wedge bulb and holder in my electric box, this needed thinning down to allow the green cap to fit over the Bulb holder. The chrome holder from the previous repair Fitted onto the stalk with a grub screw. To ‘fix’ the new bulb holder into the chrome piece, I had to build up the lower end of the new holder, I did this using a few layers of heat shrink. To allow the green cap to fit into the chrome piece, I had to carefully file off the thread on the green cap.

I think the end result looks quite good, a LOT better than before I had fiddled with it!
