I thought either clipper or surf blue mate il know for definite when I get a heritage certificate, im thinking its more like clipper blue though

well an epic day after changing the oil, I fitted an hs4 I had lying about to see if she would run, as its been 16 years lying in a shed and you know what after filling the carb with some petrol off she went brilliant,https://youtu.be/Z6kObO0dodI

got old receipts with the car showing it was sprayed flame red in 1998,was last taxed at grindon sunderland postoffice 18th January 2005, last mot I have for it was feb 2004 , and was motd at the garage on the green ,Ryhope village

You have the hole in the boot floor for the fuel tank drain tap to.
I have a 62 850. I found my chassis number stamped into the triangular drivers cross member to inner wing bracket which was nice to see.
My shell is nearly done bar fitting the front end, "A" panels, wings and front panel. Not looking forward to it in a way but i am in another.
Lots of work for you there to be cracking on with.
Well done finding a mk1.

One little tip before you throw too much stuff away: If your car still had the original front panel - keep the top "landing panel" part of it. I did on mine, and re-used it, splicing it into the new panel which had many detail differences.

Yes keep everything you can and double compare when you can
I replaced my mk1 boot floor with a heritage and found around 13-14 difference's.
Took my ages to correct the new floor back to mk1 spec.
Fortunately i found a original 62 front panel on flee bay with only surface rust that had been cut off a car.
Only the brackets that secure it to the flitch's were missing but had a front panel that i bought 30 odd years ago that supplied the missing bits.

thanks mate ,mk1 s are getting harder to find now , it still has its vin plate although very grubby and eaten away slightly on one end , the body number is still there on passenger side above the radiator so il be carefull removing them too

il be carefull keeping stuff but the whole front exept the inner wings and bonnet ,was fibreglass unfortunetly ,but now cut off and in the bin

well its been a while since one that bad came up some time ago there was one that the roof was about the only good metal in it but it got repaired our minis over here usually do not get a lot of rust unless they live near the beach or have been for a swim in the sea well good luck a lot of hard graft and she will be nice again

OOOh, that is proper rough :o . You're braver than me! You have got your work cut out there. That car must have lived through some salty winters mustn't it. Good luck with it.

Did I see in an earlier post that you own a pre-production Riley Elf? Is that the gold MWL registered one? I know a chap who used to look after it for a previous owner many years ago. In fact, I was offered it quite cheaply at one point but turned it down! Very interesting car 8-) If it is that car I expect you know most of its history anyway?

hi yes its rough but its only a matter of taking carefull measurments , bracing the car well and spending nearly 2 grand on heritage panels /m machine, afraid its not me that has the elf ,but as you say very interesting car being pre production , have you got a pic of it?

The Mini is certainly better served than almost any other car for replacement panels. I think M Machine are regarded as providing the best supply of panels for the early cars. Certainly I was a little disappointed with the detailing of some of the heritage panels I bought for my Mk1 a few years ago:( .
No, sadly I never took any photos of the gold Elf. I remember the registration number was ***MWL and the car was painted gold. It had foglamps fitted to the bonnet (?) I think and it had a supercharger fitted at one time. The owner was fairly senior in BMC at Cowley and a friend who worked there used to do some work on it for him. Sadly, it was in a pretty poor state even when I last saw it many years ago now. I still occasionally see my friend who knew the car. He will remember quite a bit about it I'm sure. Despite being in his 80s his memory is still quite sharp.

so ive removed the aluminium patches on the front and rear passenger side floor and ive decided to remove the complete floor and renew the lot with a mk1 m machine floor ,pics of the floor Image
