The transfer shaft on the back of the gearbox and the long shaft in the remote shift housing have half moon slots on the spline ends of the shafts.
Should the bolts ( for the male knuckle and shift lever socket ) to the half moon slots be a close fit?
When the bolt is inserted into the male knuckle on the back of the gearbox, the knuckle can move length wise on the shaft before tightening.
How much clearance is permitted between the bolt and half moon slot? The same for the shift lever socket on the long shaft in the remote housing.
Or, is this a mute point and should not be a concern because you tighten the bolts which lock the knuckle and socket to the shafts??
Should the long shaft in the remote housing be lubricated where it rides in the extension? If so, what to use?
Thanks
Jim

Re: Gearbox linkage / shafts
There will be some movement before tightening them and is as you've put, basically mute as when tight, they shouldn't move at all.
The scolop (half moon) is there to Index but not key the linkages.

Spider, thanks for your input
Should the long shaft in the remote housing be lubricated prior to installation and if so , what to use?
Thanks
