Mk2/3 Rear Light lens

Post by IslandBlue »

Hi,

Couple of questions about these (if allowed on a Mk1 forum!) - they come in one and two piece versions, presumably the two piece being the original version which was superseded by the one piece?

More importantly my second question relates to the metal plate that separates the indicator from the stop/tail - is this the same in both and therefore interchangeable between one and two piece lenses?

Thanks

Stewart

I'd have to go and check, but I don't think I have any 2 piece ones.
Are they not the foreign market ones that are actually the same shape/size as the UK Mk4 but without reverse?

I'm sure I have come across 2 piece UK versions, might even have one or two on my Mk2 but that's not at home so can't check

You are correct - just checked and I have NOS versions of both.

The plates are very slightly different, maybe a mm or so. I suspect that they will interchange happily - maybe with a dot of superglue if they are loose.

I do have spare plates if you need - which lenses are you trying to use?

Great - thanks for checking!

I have a cracked one piece lens (NSR also sans reflector) but with the metal plate. I can separately source new top and bottom parts of a two piece lens but neither comes with the metal plate, hence my question.

Thanks, as you said if I go the two piece route I can most likely re-use my existing plate one way or another.

I think all the original factory fitted Lucas mk2/3 rear lenses were one piece, when I bought a replacement mk3 rear lens in the mid 80's from the local Rover dealer they supplied a two piece lens made by Unipart.
