Hi guys,
I am starting to refurbish parts to put my 65 SDL back together, it is not going to be a concours car, but I would like it to be right where it can.
Most parts will need painting before re assembly. My questions are about paint...
What colour is correct for the majority of black parts? Gloss or satin? (I am talking about things like brake back plate, bulkhead brackets, steering column etc)
Is acrylic aerosol the easiest option? Where from/brand? Halfords? U-Pol?
Do I need to etch prime these parts?
Do I need another primer before top coat?
Most of these parts, where suitable, will be blasted first.
I know I could get them powered coated, but I would prefer to paint them myself.
I have a 3hp compressor, so could buy a spray gun. But I have never done this before, worth it over aerosols?
I have already had both subframes blasted, and I have used BiltHamber Electrox and Epoxy Black to finish. I may still top coat these for UV protection (although probably not needed)
Any help or advice appreciated.
Cheers,
Rich

I used etch primer and gloss black on any bits I painted, although when I had a Quote for powder coating I had most done as was cheaper than buying the paint.

Aerosols have very thin paint in. To get good coverage you'll need to apply many coats.
This car was sprayed with about 150 small cans and he's got a great finish. The guy managed to get the cans with all the same type / make and batch number.
But if you've got a comp., buy some paint and borrow a gun and give it a go. Practice makes perfect.
Beware the hazards of modern paints though !

Thanks for the reply.
The shell is already painted, I paid a pro to do it with 2K.
I wouldn't even know where to start with using a gun and compressor. Where to buy paint? What type etc?
Cheers, Rich
