Last year I had my original mag Minilites 'gold Chromated/Dow7' by a defence contractor.....(about the only place I could find who could do it), trouble is they are not the 'right' colour more black than gold - though I do hope they are now safe and stable for another few years. They all ring with a perfect pitch!
I certainly dont want to powder coat them as that creates a skin which if water does get behind will just rot them, so I just want to bring the colour back with a blow over with paint.
But - what colour??? (hindsight, should have done the match before handing over!

I think according to the late Dave Gilbert that the works cars had the wheels painted bronze ,not as most people think gold paint .

Re: RAL Pantone for 60's Gold Minilites
Thanks both.
I'd describe the colour as a dusky or more towards rose gold, certainly not the yellow gold I see many and modern Minilites are done in. I see a similar colour on Mark F's car in his younger days in the pictures thread.
This car has quite a back story, NZ export, 16 owners (that inclueds every garage it was part-ex'ed through) in NZ and I've tracked down the sons of the first owner (actually they never had the car but their mothers name was used on a NZmarket tax dodge!) Tracked down the guy who used it for club motorsport, he bought the wheels in 1970 when he came to the UK on a visit! Final NZ owner a bit shark like - wanted money to talk old cars...(been in his shed for 20 years!). What I dont know is who shipped it back to the UK. I guess a commercial activity as all that happened was they got it running and consigned to auction. Rather bought on a whim (paid too much?)...Body restored, sent over to Neville for a Sprint job. Last year was a washout as a job change and then relocation (now a bigger house but smaller garage) and now this Co19 means the dry build is on hold...

When you see photos of the works cars with gold wheels they aren’t the shiny gold you see on modern wheels. I like the colour of yours.

Re: RAL Pantone for 60's Gold Minilites
Well, I believe what I had was 'original' but my naivety thought it to be the 'gold Chromate' finish.
So, now I presume Tec Del painted them for a product consistent 'look'. which is indeed what I want to get back to. Though there was no flaking or anything that made me think at the time it was painted on....too late now.
Of course one has to ask, did T D really care about a shade either way? They just wanted a fairly consistent colour masking 'imperfections' and giving the brand an image hitherto unseen in the aftermarket wheels world.
I think, as none of the 'master forum members' have chipped in with golden nuggets of knowledge, I may just have to select a good image of my wheels and determine what shade of the thousands of pixel colour options it is showing and be done.
