There is a hole in the flitch behind the front shock absorber mounts.

It IS a well known rot hole.
But once repaired, I tend to drill a hole at that point to wax-oyl into the end of the Xmember.

It is also double skinned there but shouldn't be have a hole unless someone has added one for rustproofing as Woody says.

There is a round hole in the in the plate between the end of the engine bay crossmember and the flitch but no hole in the flitch its self.

Thanks for that guys.
I have filled the hole in on mine then wondered if there was a drilled/pressed out hole that should be there.t
Wonder why there is a hole on the inner section but not the outer where the shock mounts bolt against.
Maybe as Woodypup59 say's, i'll drill a hole there for rust prevention to be able to get in.
I'm finding this sight really helpful for restoring my 62 850, thanks guys
