Engine/power unit identification

Post by Jono »

I've had a complete unit lying in my garage for some 10 years now - it's a 1275 and appears to be from an AD016 but I cn't seems to find a reference online for the engine number which is 12H 59A H76505.

I'm principally interested in what sort of gearbox it might have (it's an AD016 remote) whether 4 synchro etc.

Can anyone help?

Cheers muchly

Check the number on the gearbox, will tell you more than the engine number......

Are you sure the second grouping isn't 159A ? AKD5103 doesn't list 59

159A would be std ratio 4 synchro box with dynamo

Thanks guys, I have re checked and yes I think there is a '1' in the series so the actual number is 12H159A-H76505 and the gearbox bears the number 22G1128 which I understand to be a 4 synchro unit with std ratios.

I intend the split the unit shortly but from those number is it possible to say what the FD ratio is likely to be - my hope is 3.44 as I plan to convert the box to close ratios for use in a 'warmed up' Mk1 and that's the diff ratio I would like.

Presumably it is possible to convert the remove housing to Mini remote bolt configuration and the outputs to pot joints on this box?

Cheers

Intereurope manual states 3.650:1 ratio for standard 8.8:1 1275 engine. Both the ADO16 boxes I have contained that ratio when split from their engines.

That's great - thanks for the input.

...time to split it and see what I've got FD wise but I suspect it will be 3.65
