Looks a bit like the bezel on our fridge thermometer.

How about the base for a quick release gas cap! :)

Check the bore to see if same size as oil filler neck. If so it may have been a spring release for after market oil cap.

It looks like what I had in a ball joint kit not sure what it was for as it also had the normal hammer up locking tab in the kit.
