SPQR gearchange

Post by roymck »

Can’t really get on with the wand gearchange so options are change box and fit a factory remote change , or fit a SPQR remote mechanism .
Was it just SPQR made a aftermarket remote ? Also not sure about cutting holes to fit it , how big are the holes ? Still it’s only a 63 Mini , it’s not a cooper so maybe it would be ok to fit one as it was done in the day .
Next job then is find one , any leads ?

As far as I remember they were not a great improvement over the wand gearchange?

But they did work very well, I know because
I had one in my 1967 Morris Mini 850 mk1.

A well set SPQR "Major Change" is a fairly good thing. However, it won't improve a duff gear change & will never be better than a well set up original. Also, remember that most of the ones available now are worn & baggy which will have a detrimental effect on the accuracy of the change.

Thanks to Nick I now have one. According to the fitting instructions there should be a template for positioning the holes in the floor . So does anybody have that template or has anyone got one fitted to a car that can take a few measurements for me . That the only bit missing from Mark,s fitting instructions .

Anyone got a Mini with a SPQR gearchange in use that could contact me ?

Thanks Roy
