Chrome "Painting."

Post by Polarsilver »

Re.Salvage Hunter Classic Cars on TV last night .. they Chrome "Painted" a Volvo boot lock at a company somewhere in Leicester.

Clear this is no substitute for Proper Re-Chrome but on a base metal part it could be a solution ?

This process has been around for a few years, I think I saw it on Wheeler Dealers once. I looked into it when thinking about getting some 1275GT eyeball vents redone, but didn't find anyone local to me who did it at the time.

Look up HydroChrome or Aqua Chrome on the interweb.

Here's a place in Basildon that shows what can be achieved with this system

As a rule of thumb the silver metal thickness in systems like this is no more than a few microns. Enough to give a good shine, but hardly durable unless it receives a laquer or similar.

There’s been a company near me been boasting chrome finishes which are unique to them plus they offer ceramic coatings along with alsorts too .
I’ve never tried them personally but I know people who have had wheels ect done by them and it’s to a very high std
