Not sure if this is really technical but, I rediscovered this old rope handle amongst my bits that were taken off the 1071. I've no idea if it came from a boat or something but am now wondering if it might be a period item. Anyone else have one?
Wondering about refitting it now as I hung on to it many a time when navigating the car??

I think those grab handles were used on some of the earlier Works cars. I am sure someone more knowledgeable on such things will be able to give more details.

Cheers Mark, come to think of it, that would makes sense considering its first owner and the company he kept.mk1 wrote:I think those grab handles were used on some of the earlier Works cars. I am sure someone more knowledgeable on such things will be able to give more details.
Can anyone confirm as I doubt if it will go back in the spares bin now

Fitted to early Abingdon cars above the passenger/ navigator door, it is from another BMC vehicle, can't remember which. Riveted 'captive' anchor nuts usually used by the works for screwing the handle to the body.AndyPen wrote:Cheers Mark, come to think of it, that would makes sense considering its first owner and the company he kept.mk1 wrote:I think those grab handles were used on some of the earlier Works cars. This will make me dig out my old rope handle.. almost sure it has the same type of fittings with a green grey colour tinge to the Rope as i remember.
but then that colour tinge could be "Mold"

I think they may be from the MG magnette, which would make sense for early works cars

Well spotted Al, looks like you are right - they were door handles!Pandora wrote:I think they may be from the MG magnette, which would make sense for early works cars
