Wheel colour

Post by BucksMk1 »

Evening All,

I'm hoping that the wealth of knowledge on here will be able to answer a lil question I have..... :)

Does anyone know what colour the wheels should be on a '65 Super Deluxe? They're steel tens, which seem to be ivory-ish from new.

I'm looking to have them blasted and then enameled, but want them as close to the original as possible.

If it matters, the body is Tweed Grey.

Thanks in advance for any help :D :D :D

For a Mk1 wheels should be Old English White (BMC Code WT.3)

Be aware that there are 2 Old English White colours, one creamier than the other. I believe you need the lighter one as the other shade was used on Morris Minors and Cambridge/Oxford wheels. Long ago memory but I think I'm right about OLW.

The same goes for Tartan Red, one older and one newer shade......

All of my original MKI wheels, are far more cream than white, nothing like Old English White/Snowberry White used on the roofs......

I think that Dunlop painted the wheels in "a creamy colour". I remember seeing Old English White cars with wheels of a slightly different shade. BMC wouldn't have worried. Most restorers will simply spray the OE White now though which is fair enough really.........
