Lucky escape for Paddy on the '66 Circuit of Ireland. The car was written off and the number plate never appeared again until 1986 when it was applied for, conveniently just after the DVLC torched all their old records of scrapped cars ;) , one of many scrapped works Mini number plates that reappeared from the scrapyard in the sky soon after this one.

Just a picture from a very nice item I bought just now.

This enamel sign (10 cm) is from the factory where the Mk1 Mini was assembled
in the Netherlands in the years 1959 up till 1961.
They also assembled the Morris Minor before that.

Took this at Quorn & Woodhouse on the Great Central Railway about ten years ago...

This one is from 2007, just before the old Brush Works was demolished, the Rover 3500 Auto was one of three P6s I owned for a while, a great motor, I wish I hadn't sold it....

One of the two Downton tuned Deep Sanderson 301s , for Chris Lawrence and Gordon Spice at Le Mans in 1964.
Neither car fared well as one crashed in practice and the other overheated early in the race before Spice could even take the wheel.

;)

Edinburgh lass Michaelle Burns-Grieg got the racing bug after watching Christabel Carlisle
show the boys how to do it in the early 60s and so ordered a new Mini Cooper in 1963 and
had it delivered straight to Downton Engineering for preparation. Whilst there ,the Downton
workshops were surrounded by the police who searched the car looking for the loot from
the Great Train Robbery! All explained by the fact that Michaelle was the then girlfriend of
promising racing driver and soon to be infamous getaway driver Roy James!

Pete, not Kees
