fitted mk1 s altern. loom from minispares alternator choice?

Post by Steve A »

Hi just fitted a mk1 s loom for alternator from minispares and was wondering about alternator output. I have been offered a new alternator with 64 amp output would this be o.k. for this loom? it only has the standard fuse box. I am a total novice with electrics as you can probably tell but don't want my shiny car going up in flames lol. Does the alternator have a regulator built in? Thanks AGAIN Steve

64 amps is nothing special and will be fine.

"Does the alternator have a regulator built in?" Sorry to be impolite - but you're the one with the alternator (or at least access to it) - how would we know?? Some do, some don't.

Cheers, Ian

Thanks for the reply. Thats not impolite Ian, i've been called thick before  LOL, give me a trowel, saw, hammer and tape measure anyday and i'll build you what you want but as you may be able to tell i'm just not getting to grips with the electrics  . I wouldn't know how to check if it has or hasn't got a regulator, i wasn't aware some had and some hadn't so please enlighten me :?: . Thanks again Steve
