Recently got my car back after having the diff rebuilt and bodywork.
Unfortunately it's developed a jumping out of 1st fault under load. If I hold it in, it's fine and I cannot feel any pressure on my hand forcing it out. Change is a little slacker than before so I'm thinking its more of not selected fully issue. Ordered a new bush for the bottom of the stick but wondered if it would be easy to see on the top of the box if the knuckle is out of line. Not sure it's the box it's self. It has been fine before this diff rebuild fault.
Any suggestion's?

Re: 3 sync 333 casting jumping out of 1st.
Hi Mk1 rally
If nothing has been touched inside, try the 2 knuckles that are at the top of the diff casing.
I have sometimes found that if they are put together straight on and are a bit worn, it doesn't select 1st gear properly.
Or maybe they haven't been done up tight, worn spline etc.
Thanks
Ian

You can't have too many cars. Just too little space...

You say that it has been rebuild. Maybe the little plunger 22G89 inside the synchronizer hub or the ones (or their springs) for the selector rod have been forgotten? How are things with respect to second gear? But normally these items don't need to be removed when just rebuilding on the diff.
Too many cars...

Thanks all. It was purely the diff casting that was taken off. The engine stayed on the box so no work was done on the internals. Got the new cup today and will look at the knuckles and bushes for the rod itself. Second is still fine as before.

Ok, changed the bush at the bottom of the stick. The original was worn but not too bad. Put it back together but not had it up the road yet. It's taken a little of the play out but there is still a bit in the actual fulcrum ball, the one with the slot in it. The nylon flange bush that holds it in place seems pretty worn. Can you get them? I can lift the gear lever up a couple of mill or so so that must be affecting the selection.
