Welded Seat brackets

Post by ChrisB »

Hi all, got a few questions for those on here with pre-62 cars.

I have the welded seat brackets as seen in this picture:

Unfortunately I do not have any pictures of the correct seat. I notice that there is a far larger gap where the seat bolts into the bracket, whereas on the later type bolt on brackets there is a very slim width.

Has anybody got any pictures of the correct seat frame - especially good if anybody can provide pictures of Van seats.

I have a 1960 Van which is going to have a complete show restoration, any help would be greatly appreciated!

The type that fit the welded mounts are the ones with the 90 degree bends on the legs. Have a look on this page here.

Thanks for that link.

That site is making me question a few things now, e.g. a 1960 car having an engine with a bunch of late 60's bits on it, an incorrect radiator fan (Metal 16 instead of 4) and a silver faced speedo (Morris) when the car is an Austin.

Alot of people changed the fans to the 16 blade type as they were quieter, so could be the case with yours.

I have also heard that alot of the later sevens had the silver speedo from the factory. But im sure someone more knowledgable can confrim

Please don't take all the this car definitely only had this and that car only had that as gospel truth.

It isn't.

Particularly in the early days there was a lot of swapping & changing and this bit went on that car from new. You must also appreciate that even on low mileage cars a lot of bits could have been swapped perfectly innocently in the course of keeping it going.

Looks like you have an interesting project on your hands.

What colour is your car? I could have a full low mileage interior that may interest you.

Willow Green body, Tan interior - seems that the Van only had a tan interior through the 60's.

Apparently the drivers seat is adjustable, but the passenger seat is a set position and looks different? I don't know, difficult to get the information and not many about to look at!

I think the Minivan forum/Register has now disappeared but there may be some useful info which may help you on this Mini Pickup website:

Couldn't agree more with Marks statement, it was all a mess!

The passenger seat was the same frame as a saloon basic seat. Fixed with loops rear feet. I have a friend with a 60 van if you want to be put in touch pm me an email address.

A good place to ask is here on SMF.
