I'd guess that 5" rims....Dunlop D1's etc were available before 165 tyres, so 145's were the only option available to the man in the street ( other than race tyres )…?? It will be good to see 145's on 5" rims again on cars without arches...….I have a set of original ( which need refurbishing ) D1's which I may put on my Almond green MK 2 with 145 Blockleys. I'd like to see some pics of similar set up first if anyone can post

I have a similar dilemma, my mk2 cooper has d1s with a008 tyres, but as they are quite old I am considering replacing with new, if 145 looks good and more period on the alloys would buy those, so would be interested in seeing a picture if anyone fits them. Am pretty sure they would look ok though, I think d1 alloys are an underrated alloy as they look very good and easy to refurb, they seem to hold up well with corrosion as well.

Hold on chaps, I'll go and get them on my D1's this or next week. Thanks for the good advice and comments. You're right Daz, the D1's are a good looking wheel and the alloy composition (one of the LM's) was the same material as the alloy road sign type alloys that is very corrosion resistant.

Bought a set of 145s at Beaulieu from Julian today and will be fitting them on the minilites. They are a fantastic looking tyre and great value compared to the more common Aquas.

Yes, it was good to talk to Julian, I plan to take advantage of his fitting service very soon... hope he sells enough to keep interested in it...he described sales ‘as a steady trickle’...the 165 example looked even better

Me too, I paid for a set at Beaulieu and will pick them up and fitted this week (no room in car) as their works a fairly close. Great bloke that Julian man, said if I waited 6 weeks I could have a set of 165's instead.

I can`t bring myself to buy a set due to the huge BLOCKLEY on the sidewall...

I too had the exact same thoughts when I originally saw the tyre sidewall...

I thought the same, but in the flesh it doesn't look that bad, and at £300 for four it is quite a saving over Dunlops offering.

I ordered a set for the Speedwell car yesterday. Will see what they drive like.

Personally I wouldn't expect there to be anything else on the side wall, as they are Blockley tyres.

That wording is required by the U.S. Department of Transportation for Julian to legally sell then in the U.S.; hence the word "tire."

Just a update for anyone considering Blockleys.

I’m a few months in now in a set of 145x10s, I have to say that the wear rate seems very good compared with Aquajets with no noticeable grip difference.

Did you fit the 145 Blockleys to your D1s in the end? My Falkens are getting near end of life so would be interested to see the 145 Blockley on the D1.

Did you use inner tubes out of interest? Pretty sure I've not got tubes with my 145 Falkens on the D1s.

Yes I used tubes, it was recommended by Blockley as the D1 doesn't have the safety bump that modern wheels have that prevent the tyre rolling off the bead. I'm not saying it's a definite requirement but sounded feasible, I'm sure plenty run without them with no problems.
