Tank fitting
Hi, i've been struggling all day trying to fit my petrol tanks.
I have managed the left one but hardly any neck sticks out of the seal but the right one is being a right pain.
Its a replacement tank from minispares but i can't tighten the tank straps without the filler neck dissapearing. Also the rib at the bottom of the tank doesn't sit on the boot floor like the left hand side it is about 2mm off the floor As i don't think the flange is as wide as the left hand tank. They are both sitting on the correct brackets.
Another thing is the aftermarket neck seal doesn't seal as well as the original type, any idea where i can get an original type from?
Regards Steve

Re: Tank fitting
If the boot floor has been repaced, just a thought...... I hope your problem isn't that the floor, below the tank is too low ?

Re: Tank fitting
Have you replaced the tank stands? They are the only thing I can think of which would cause the neck to sit too far in. The edge of the top should be 37mm from the straight edge of the wheel arch.

Thanks for the advice/info, i'll take the tanks back out in the week and measure the brackets but i think they were right. The left hand tank has a drain plug which fouls the boot floor it is 5.5 galon?

Should be possible to fix a packing of an appropriate height between the tank and the tank stand to bring the neck to the correct height? This is a bit of a bodge I know but doubt you would see the packing unless you stood on your head in the boot!Austin Cooper wrote:Have you replaced the tank stands? Re: Tank fitting
I was thinking of fitting some dense foam on it to see if it made much difference. The left hand tank which is 5.5 gallon has a drain plug which fouls the boot floor a little so i was wondering if it may be the wrong tank? regards Steve

Doesn't the drain plug go through a hole in the boot floor? I thought the drain plug had a 3" long tube on it so it would have to? My car doesn't have the drain plug or a hole so I could be wrong.
