Oil seals on guides for exhaust valves - good idea or not?

Ok tks but it's quite a 'racy' egine - 1071 with 286??

It's a trade off. The guides/valves will last longer if there isn't a seal, but it will possibly smoke somewhat if not in very good condition in the first place.

Does it require much lubrication? With Hidurel (bronze) v/v guides. :?

just asked my engine builder the same question as my new engine has a little bit of smoke when being pushed , he said for a road car yes, for a rally car no, the valves last longer with lubrication and with the way you drive.....whatever that meant ???
