oil filter light

Post by Jamie »

Hi
I have a 1300gt engine in my mk1, which i have started a few times since it was rebuilt, mine is your basic mk1 so only has the single speedo in it....the oil pressure light goes out fine, but the other orange oil light on the right hand side of the speedo (which i think is for the oil filter) stays on (has only done this on last 2 start ups), if i disconnect the wire where it connects onto the oil filter housing it turns off. (i have traced the colours ok on the wiring diagram)
i have a new oil filter in the engine....and its got fresh oil in it, not sure what else to mention!
Any ideas?

jamie

you may have assembled the oil filter wrong buy putting the little alloy discs in the wrong way - this blocks the flow, which would trip the switch.

or, the switch may be faulty

thanks for that, think i'll drop the oil out tommorrow and investigate.
Is it pretty obvious once i have it apart as to which way round they should go? not sure i have an exploded pic of it.

i think it goes wrong if you put the round disc on top of the element rather than underneath it, but its been years since ive swopped one
