The Longman split Weber setup was certainly available in 1970.1071dk wrote:OK, can a FIA appendix K Mini, race in the pre-72 class, with split weber(free inlet manifold) or with single weber DCOE ?

Re: Split Webers
The new GR. 2 1970 stipulated many changes compared pre. /-70. Among the differences was that carboration was TOTALY free. No homologation needed. The first people to fit Webers to a Mini were Sportscars in Sweden. Pre./-65 the carb was free provided it/they were fitted to the homologated inlet manifold. So they remowed one barrel of each and welded it together again. It worked very well and gave avarage 2-4 HP more than 1½" SU. The Longman figuration was off course much more clever due to the inlet 1970 got free and he could just take away what was a must on one Weber to make place for both. That worked very well and gave an extra wellcome 5 HP. The first edition ST released of the 8 ports i cast iron was crap. I bought the Cooper Car Co. Britax Minis with Lucas fuel injection. But they were ONLY marlinal quicker than a GOOD 5 porter. 1973 in winter I took contact with Jim Whitehouse and he made me after his ideas retuned aluminium new cast 8 porters and the Lucas was fitted. We run 1150cc Gr.2 & 4 in those days. That is the ever best engine of all S types if you choose from 1000-1300cc. Today I race a FIA 970S on SU´s. Perfect if you have the time, knowledge and the money. Tommy Sweden
