Boot seal
Tried in vain to fit a new boot seal to the bootlid and get it to close. It feels like the seal is putting to much pressure on the boot. Anyone got any ideas? Is there a softer seal? Its the one that fits to the boot with the clips on a mk1. Anyone got any tips. I don't want to start bending anything as its just been painted. Without the seal the bootlid fits slightly in from the body and there seems quite a bit of play when locked as you pull the bootlid outward to line up with the body.

Re: Boot seal
I know it sounds drastic but look out for an original seal , even if it's not A1 it's got to be better than repro. Same applies to door and window seals !Steve A wrote: It feels like the seal is putting to much pressure on the boot. Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Boot seal
I've had the same problem, I could just get the boot lid to close but with a huge gap along the top. I ended up putting the old one back on.

Re: Boot seal
Thank god, someone else has had the same problem, I was beggining to think it was my hinge rail is positioned in the wrong place!
So looks like the only solution is to use an old seal then?
Has anyone managed to fit a new seal with any success? Or know if genuine ones are still available?

Re: Boot seal
Got one from minispares today and it now fits
Its a little tight but much better and i think it will probably compress more as it gets used.
It has more of a 'hollow' centre than the other one i had.
I now have a problem with the number plate swinger not siting on the rubber buffers but catching the bottom of the boot moulding. It looks like it could do with being higher?

Re: Boot seal
I think ive sussed why mine won't shut...It turns out I'd put the seal on the wrong way round.
Not possible if you use the clips, but I glued mine on. If you press on the seal one way it is really hard the other way it is really soft. Ive just taped mine on the right way round to try it out, and the boot closes much better now.

matty, thank god you dont live in japan, you could blame the supplier for not providing detailed instructions for the fitting of the seal
