Reading this thread....really great idea Gary to have period plates for the car. Now, I think I will do the same for my RHD 970. This 970 was dispatched to Car Mart (Northern) on August 27th 1964.
So, anyone in the UK who could suggest a plate for that car???? Is Car Mart Northern in London or somewhere in the North of England. Appreciate suggestions.

Dermot, there is a record of "Car Mart (Northern)" in Newcastle upon Tyne being struck off the registered companies list in 1973, so they could well have been in business 10 years prior.

As for registration numbers, look on acmepedia for the regional codes.

ps. I got a period 1967 German number plate off eBay to put on my German-market car, great as another talking point for shows.

Car Mart (Northern) were in north London. Something like CYW 970C wouldn't be too far amiss.

Yep, M is for Munich, the rest has no meaning, it´s just an arbitrary combination.
In todays Germany (since 1994) you can choose whatever letters and numbers you want. So in 1967 you couldn´t choose and it was just an arbitrary combination.
Sometimes the amount of the numbers can tell something about the area of the city where that plate was issued (either in the city or in the region around), but I don´t really know, how they handled that back in '67 in Munich...

Cheers from Germany,
Mike
