Here are a few pictures of the holes on the parcel shelf (This is a LHD car) very original car...never been restored.
There are 4 holes under the shelf for different positions for the heater. The speed nuts can be moved depending on whether it is a RH or LHD car.
Also, the studs for a RHD car are there. As I said ealier...it was always my impression that the MK1 bodies were built for either markets.

I was under the impression that the bodies were made to be 'either-way' as they used to call it before it became un-PC to call things either-way. Bottom photo looks like they're the steering column top mount and small holes to the left, for the little WIPAC screen washer thinggy. Could be wrong of course and stand to be smacked on the wrist!
I understood that the heater support arms were spread out slightly more than the heater was to allow the fitting of different size or variables of heaters for different climatic markets. There was a bit of a thread goijng about this and the fact that there was also a heagonal threaded spacer that was used occasionally to space the heaters left and right. The first all plastic heaters fitted from mid 69 were in fact European safety related heaters that were slightly botched to fit UK cars - as told to me by Smiths while restoring my car.

... The heaters were offset Peter...I have a RHD here...it is centered on the parcel shelf....the LHD cars...was off set....
Yes, the picture shows where the steering column and the washer pump would go if it was RHD

Very helpful, it looks like all of the holes on my dash are original (except one that I welded up), and the cars are meant to be used for either side driving.
There's one extra hole on the RH side edge that appears in one of your photos. Can't figure out what would have been mounted on a RHD car that isn't used for LHD, but it definitely looks original.

Seeking clarification on paint color of bonnet plate/latch mechanism.
The two parts at the top of the picture are painted body color.
What should the color be for the spring, pin and cup. I have seen numerous paint color variations.
