MkIII Cooper S Engine
Was wondering if the factory MKIII Cooper S engine 12G940 head came with the pressed rockers or the steel rockers? Just asking because I picked up a late S motor, it has the correct 12G940 head with the 1.4" inlets, dual valve springs, 12G1805 stamping, etc, but it has the pressed rockers. Curious if that was original or if they had been changed sometime during it's life. Thanks!

Mine's got pressed steel rockers and also has the engine number 38G which has been in the car since new. 38G being a replacement number I can only guess the lump was pulled out at Longbridge when it failed final inspection, certainly before it was registered anyway !

nothing new there pete, a mate of mine bought a brand new le35 (the almond green special edition) that managed abut 4 miles from the dealers before the engine seized solid - the oil pump had failed! - it had to have a full new engine/box fitted when it was less than a week old!

Re: MkIII Cooper S Engine
this letter belongs to a mk3s that is owned by a customer of mine - he is the second owner and took it in part exchange from the original owner in 1984 (against a 535m bmw!)
he has got every bit of paperwork that came with the car

sorry about watermarking it, but it was an agreement of copying it.
for extra comedy value please note the name of the owner - its not our glorious leader!

Fantastic document, obviously this "Mr M Forster" didn't like his pressed steel rockers
Or does "Our Glorious Leader" (hehe) have a TARDIS out back?

Never seen a broken pressed steel rocker - seen plenty of bust 'S' ones.....sometimes cheap crap works, another example, had a fake tag heuer watch for 6 years , never missed a beat, bought a real calibre 6 carrera, had it on 3 times and its bust
