Highlands Car Sleeper Train - looking for more info
I have a '63 Morris Mini Minor which I bought a year or two ago from Leeds, the guy I bought it from said there was a ferry sticker/pass in the window as the original owner holidayed every year in Scotland. I've only just had a closer look at the sticker and it looks like its a pass for the Highlands Car Sleeper train. After a bit of googling it looks like there was a train that ran from York to Inverness, does any one have any more info, or even flyers tickets etc.

andy
there are some photos and details of one of the BR car carrying trains on Jerons site, cant find it now though!
to drive from York to Inverness would have been a right trek in the 1960's though - I bet it would have taken 8-10 hours, so a train would have been well worth it

And in an 850 Mini too.
I can see a trip to York Railway Museum on the cards.

Interesting that the photo there shows the car driving into something akin to the euro-tunnel closed carriage. My memory of seeing photos before was that moto-rail used open trucks, basically on the back of the passenger train.
I wonder if they had a lost vehicle office for folk who got off the train and left their ford anglia behind?

I'll ask 'Timothy Potter' at work. He's collected train timetables for years.

Yep, the cars were shackled to open trucks and the passengers went in the carriages. My friend James Pettifar was nodding off on said journey with fellow passengers when the passenger opposite had a heart attack and died. They had to stop the train somewhere, unload all the cars to get his off and all that palaver. But a BR man drove his car, luggage and wife home

Re: Highlands Car Sleeper Train - looking for more info
It got a LOT worse Andy because nobody could be certain where or when the death took place and in England, it's the coroner of the county where the death too place that has to deal with it. James was an Army Warrant Officer in Germany and he was called back and forth to answer questions........, police involved........but that was when they could decide exactly where he died......... Went on longer than Ben-Hur
