I feel I should know who made this but can't find a similar one anywhere. It is alloy and I think (but not certain) that the right hand flag was originally a Union flag but it has been rubbed clear. Does anyone have any ideas?

Simon, I have a nos smaller one in plastic with the same coloured flag on, and underneath it has Alexander on it. Hope this helps.

my word alexander!!!quick ebay Genuine alexander alloy gearknob once touched by john cooper and i think it may have been used in a works rally car.... here is some photos of a works mini which have now't to do with the gearknob but may get a fiver more for it!! please note the bmc box is not included.
