Lower door window chrome surrounds

Post by Jamie »

Hi

I am trying to fit a pair of the lower door mouldings i bought from mini spares (24A342 and 24A341) The mouldings are fine although had to mess about with the clips (13H525) so they would fix to the moulding ok......I am having a nightmare trying to get the clips to stay on the door without popping off! Some places they stay on but near the ends the top off the door skin isnt dressed so tight i guess which is why they wont stay on, i keep re-squeezing them up but i'm not having a lot of luck!

Has anyone else struggled with this? the clips have scratched my nice new paint a treat so it has to go on whatever now to cover the door tops up!......maybe i should put some sealant on the clips to fix them against the door? any ideas?

thanks

the trick is to fit the clips to the trims first, then line it all up and knock them onto the door using a soft mallet

its a swine of the job if you fit the clips first as its hard to try and snap the trims over the 'crabs claw' part of the clips

the clips will need the door skin to be very flat, so if the clips are popping of your door, it would suggest that the width of the skin is too great for the clip to hold on
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

Hi Guru

Thanks for that, i think thats exactly the problem, the clips do stay on in a few places along the door, so i could push them further down i guess and just not have any clips at the ends, i think it must stretch out a bit where the skin is getting near the door frame.

i'll have a go at clipping them on and moving them down a bit, maybe double up the clips where i know they stay on!

what a nightmare

thanks
