Spring rate

Post by vegar »

This is a question a bit on the side of what normally are on this board, but as there are so many clever mini anoracs here, I try it anyway

I have modyfied my A112 Autobianchi Abarth from leaf spring to coil over at the rear yesterday, but are a bit puzzled about spring rates. I have mounted 400 lbs 7" springs now, but a friend of mine are using 800 lbs, wich I think is very much.

I am trying to compare the A112 to a Mini handlingwise. I know there are differences with the suspensions, but what do Mini racers use as spring rates on their minis, espescially when converted to coil over??

I think my rear Spax coilovers were rated at 120 pounds, but that was back in the 80s and using the old type of "fat" coilovers. Used mainly on Tarmac Stages and Airfields etc.

I've got the AVO's on mine and run 110lbs springs, just about perfect.
