Twin su's hif4's or hs4's
Which are considered the better carbs twin hif4's or twin hs4's for a 1330 mildly tuned engine? Which are easier to set up and which are more reliable? thanks Steve

In terms of performance, to my knowledge they are pretty equivalent, but in terms of reliability for keeping in tune, ease of setting the choke mechanism up, etc etc HIF's all the way.
If it's mildly tuned wouldn't 1 1/2's be a more appropriate size?

HIF4s are 1.5" (as opposed to HIF44s). Found on MGBs and sporty Allegros (oxymoron?) mainly but I think a few other cars had them too.
I don't think (but could be worng!) that HIF38s were ever produce in L & R variations.
The hardest part with HIF4s is getting a linkage to work reliably as the bodies end up very close together. Depending on the original fitment of the carbs, the throttle cable bracket can be interesting too.

Please ignore my comment completely. I didn't read the original question properly. For some reason I thought you were asking about H4's and HS4's.
(Because this is the decision that I was making a while ago!)

Re: Twin su's hif4's or hs4's
Thanks, i already have a set of hs4's (well thats what i bought them as lol!) but i have since been told that the hif4's would be a better bet as they are more reliable? The manifold i have is labelled MITCHAM MOTORS if anyone knows of theses manifolds? I was told that they were taken from a mini and both carbs look like they have been serviced and the throttle linkages look new.
I have seen some hif4's for sale on ebay that have been rebuilt and was thinking about swapping to those.

I'm just wondering what you might expect to go wrong with the HS4s.... Mine came from ST in the 70s and have been on the car for 30 odd years....Now you've made me concerned that something bad might be about to happen...
