Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
i am starting to go through mine now, i am only really interested in pic's of my car, etc, just incase i don't have them any more.
the rest i will delete,
but i have good internet speed but photobucket will only load up the headings on there website , looks like a lot of people are on there site removing there photos so its a bottle neck.
EDIT: well that way rich said worked got all my 1000 odd images off, and stored on my computer, a lot are copies , but some are not.
so photo bucket can delete my account for all i care, i don't have hardly any recent photo on forums, most are from years ago and on forums that don't exist anyone so no big loss to the internet.
like someone said , give it 6 months and you might not see photo bucket, but also watch out, as i can see a trend from other photo hosting site following suit, so keep a backup.

Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
I used this to copy everything off Peefucket:
http://download.cnet.com/Migratr/3000-2 ... 18734.html
Worked a treat, but for some reason won't migrate them to Flickr (I've not tried the other ones it comes up with though).
My thinking was, especially on project threads, if you can keep the actual 'file name' at the end of the link the same, then you may able to use a 'find & replace' to change the rest of the path. Hence updating an entire build thread to point it at the alternative hosting site in one go?

Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
Unfortunately Flickr uses a random text code for each image, so there is no chance of a simple find & replace.

Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
Mark, is it possible to set up our own picture IP/site for use on this forum ?? There are plenty out there offering good deals. Not sure of the practicalities of this and if you could lock it down to this forum ?
Personally I tend to use my own IP, rather than photobucket as I find it just as easy and fast and I trust my provider since he is a customer and friend

Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
great success
in 24 hours i have managed to download one single album of photos from photobucket
I guess their servers are getting a hammering at the moment!

Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
I'm lucky I don't have to download mine, otherwise I would be very busy for the next few months.

To be honest i have found them really slow for the last few months with uploading stuff like holiday albums, etcrich@minispares.com wrote:great success

There does seem to be an anomaly with this as some forums are affected, others not. The SWMBO's art forum is not affected and a comment on one a land rover forum went to the effect
" only embed the IMG bit of the code, not the URL."
Not sure what that means in laymans terms but his pictures worked Ok - for now.
Is it to do with how the forum program links the files ???
Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
When yuo copy the img code on the photobucket site (and flickr) it is a URL link that directs to the site.
[ url=http://s710.photobucket.com/user/surfbl ... 1.jpg.html](img]http://i710.photobucket.com/.../ww102/s ... 110201.jpg[/img)
What I have done for a long time is remove the URL link when posting images leaving just the IMG code for the picture
[ img]http://i710.photobucket.com/.../ww102/s ... 110201.jpg
If you click the Img button above [ img] you get the piece of code that allows you to post any .jpg you find on the web. If you copy and paste any .jpg in the middle of [ img] you post that picture.

Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
TMF are also looking for a solution:-
Announcement: Photobucket Users Please Read
"Please do not delete any of the images in your Photobucket account.
We're all very annoyed about the changes Photobucket have made and I've been reading the discussions where a few people have suggested that they might delete all of the images in their Photobucket account in protest.
Please do not do this!
We're working behind the scenes to see what we can do to rescue all of the threads on the forum that Photobucket have essentially rendered useless. However, if you delete the images from your Photobucket account, you're reducing our options by a significant margin.
Please for now, hold tight and let us see if we can come up with a rescue plan."

Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
Looks like existing Plus Account users have until end of 2018.mab01uk wrote:At the moment my pictures are not affected either. A year after signing up for Photobucket I used up the "free" 2Mb of space so paid for some space for a small fee (considerable less than what is being asked now). I checked out the new terms and conditions and the plan that I have is not listed. However when they last changed the terms and conditions what I signed up for did not change, nor did my fee, so hopefully this time I will get lucky again. My next payment is due next April so that may be crunch time. If I do loose what I have there will be a lot of empty spaces on forums as it will be impossible to reload all the pictures that I have linked to another site.
It appears to me Photobucket is using a kind of "legal" RansomeWare obviously hoping that people will sign up so their pictures can be viewed again. I wonder if anyone will bring a legal challenge to what they have done?
I have tried flikr, and it does work, but is not as easy as photobucket to use. Also you always have to leave a link to you photos so it makes it easy for others to find all your pictures and nick them for their own use (Mini and British Lifestyle).
In the mean time I will plod on with photobucket.
What users are affected by the changes to our 3rd Party Hosting policies?
"Moving forward, new and legacy free account users will NOT have third party
hosting available.
If you were a Plus Account subscriber in good standing as of June 1, 2017,
you will continue to have all the privileges you have enjoyed including 3rd
Party Hosting until December 31, 2018 as long as you maintain your
subscription.
Non Plus 500 Account subscribers that purchased after June 1, 2017 will not
have access to 3rd Party Hosting."

Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
Well that means my pictures will be visible until April 2018, as I have no intention of paying for something I will not be able to use. Also by that time most of the threads with pictures I have posted will be pretty much dormant.
For now I will be continuing with Flickr as my preferred hosting site.

Mine have all gone already. My 39 page Unipower thread is now virtually meaningless.surfblue63 wrote:Well that means my pictures will be visible until April 2018, as I have no intention of paying for something I will not be able to use. Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
I'm still hoping PB will see sense, admit its error and pull its new policy.
Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
I agree it has rendered a lot of build, historic and general usage threads completely useless, some of which have been added to over a number of years. Unfortunately I fear that it will put people off start, or even continuing, "story" threads of their cars as it could happen again with any other photo hosting site.Pete wrote:

Re: Hosting Images on Photobucket
Been using Flickr as the way forward for some time now,but by all accounts in recent times Imgur is more intuitive. Can't see either remaining free in view of recent developments for the foreseeable though. And to be perfectly honest they're providing a service so why on earth would they ?
Distinct lack of subtlety,PB must be run by 'IT type' people for them to take this approach !!
