hydrolastic helper springs

[wolseley 1000]

hi,
I´ve just removed two hydro helper springs from an early Clubman that will go to my Wolseley 1000.
except from a bid of red paint, which obviously not original, there is just bare metal, so how were they from new? Black, silver, same colour as the car?

There were blue zinc plated.
