Just received this heads up.

Hi Mark.

Not sure if this is of any interest, but we (Classic Car Auctions/ Silverstone Auctions) have just consigned ED4220 the blue and white, 1966 Downton 998 that was shipped to NZ in 1968. The car is back in the UK and, I understand, that it is hoped to return it to its original reg JGY 303D. The car is not on our website yet but will be when I have had a good look at the history. We will be offering it for sale on June the 10th.

Regards, Howard Hill-Lines.

First up is an optimistically estimated Mk2 S

and the other is a car with a more friendly estimate and an interesting rally history

For interest, Historics have a similar vintage Mk.2 S at their Ascot Saturday auction with, perhaps, a more realistic estimate of £20-25k. Both these Mk.2s are running alternators and same colour schemes. Also a Mk.1 1071 S with a top end estimate of £46k.

Just noticed that they offer finance deals. I guess that's one way of keeping the market in an upward spiral.

I like the way they have taken the original body number and stamped it into a commision number plate, then I presume thrown the original tag away... :? :? :?

Auction - September 23rd 2017 - Brooklands Motor Museum
1991 Rover Mini Cooper (Ex-Britt Ekland)
"On 19th February 1964, just ten days after their first meeting, Peter Sellers and Britt Ekland married. He purchased a Mini for his new wife as a birthday gift which sadly was stolen and never recovered. Britt Ekland purchased the Mini we have for sale here on 29th November 1991 and was supplied by H.L. Austin & Sons Ltd in SW18. Present in the documentation is the original V5 and Service Record Book with her name and address; Billing Street, Chelsea where she lived at the time, with the notification of sale transfer slip with her signature on it. After owning the Mini for five years, the car was sold when she auctioned off everything she owned after her divorce from Slim Jim Phantom, the drummer from the Stray Cats in 1996. Presented in good all-round condition, this historic Mini is supplied with a V5C registration document, a current MoT test certificate valid until 30th April 2018 and the original service books together with a collection of invoices. Finished in black with half-leather seats, three clock dashboard and a Mini Cooper alloy steering wheel; a Mini is an iconic piece of motoring history, this low mileage example with an interesting original owner is offered for sale at ‘no reserve’."

I have posted this press cutting below before.......which shows the sad end of Britt Ekland's original Mini as mentioned above.
The press cutting/photo is from the Daily Express in December 1984 showing a very upset Britt Ekland and a Mini given to her by her late husband Peter Sellers. The Mini is partly stripped on the back of a tow truck having been stolen then recovered in London. I remember at the time wishing I could locate & purchase the salvage but unfortunately never did follow it up as it appeared in the paper around the same time my father died. (He had the D.Express delivered every day).

EXPRESS PICTURE EXCLUSIVE
Britt's dream ends as a wreck
by John McCormick. Picture: Barry Gomer
Small B&W picture of Peter Sellers, caption: He sold the car.
Large (1/2 page) B&W picture of Britt Ekland actually sitting on the front of the stripped Mini which is sitting on the road vandalised with no wheels, no bonnet, no grille, dark paintwork looks damaged with light patchwork areas, front bumper with overiders & Mk1 corner bars is present, visible headlamp shell is the rectangular type, No.Plate backing plate is still fitted but no Reg plate unfortunately. Leather steering wheel & probably a sunroof can also be seen.
The Article reads:-
Forlorn and sad film star Britt Ekland was reunited yesterday with her "dream car" - now a complete wreck.
She burst into tears when she found the car, stolen before Christmas from outside her Chelsea home.
Engine, battery, doors, windows, headlamps and even numberplates were missing when it was found at Ealing, West London.
"They have done everything they could to it. The only way I could recognise what remained of my car was the little black aerial which I painted myself", said Britt.
"I was heartbroken when I first saw it. There was hardly anything left. It's like a sardine tin now."
A shocked vehicle recovery expert who saw the car also said: "This was not the work of professionals. It was sheer vandalism."
The 20 year-old Mini-Cooper had been treasured by Britt, ever since she bought it from her former husband, the late Peter Sellers.
She said the custom-built Mini was like a Rolls inside, with leather seats and dashboard.
Britt, who married 23 year-old rock singer Slim Jim McDonnel earlier this year, said: "We had been looking forward to spending our first Christmas and New Year as husband and wife in London. Now it has been soured.
"That little car was one of my prized possessions. It has a lot of fine memories."

Also in the Historics at Brooklands sale is this Mini with a chequered history. Listed as a 1974, but obviously earlier. Maybe it is a period bitsa which got registered in 1974. Good number plate and has an excellent period charm, I'm sure Rich will be getting all frothy over it.
