This is the Cars and Car Conversions Sprint Estate, it's got a number of features that are not on the car in C&SC, so probably not this one

Looking at the picture of John Bolster standing next to VPR with a standard "S" next to him and another sprint next to that just out of the frame!!!!!!!!!!!

The question is : VPR in this picture is white/black, the sprint just out of shot is maybe (its a b+w picture) met grey/white,
could have these 2 cars have both had the rego number VPR as it changes color in different articles? Does anyone know, maybe Nevell

I can confirm that the number plate VPR 470 was indeed used on 2 separate cars.

The metalic grey / black one started off life as a humble red 850 & was the very first Minisprint made, the current whereabouts of this car are unknown.

The number was later transferred to an almond green Cooper that ended up sprinted in White with a black roof. This car is still alive & under restoration in the states.

Geoff & Neville were never averse to a bit of log book manipulation to avoid paying more road tax than absolutely necessary.

Which would explain why 'RRW 1' was on at least two cars. I've emailed Geoff about the Traveller, no reply as yet.

I have just heard back from Neville & he is pretty sure that the green car above is indeed the Rob Walker Sprint traveller. He was able to confirm that both black travellers pictured in this thread are the same car only in slightly different trim.

He also told me a very amusing tale re number plates that I am unfortunately not able to relate here

Has anybody ever seen a normal mini sprint still with side seams on? i mean instead of de-seaming them?
i know/understand it would be very difficult to do a sprint and still keep these on but id like to see one for reference if anybody has a photo of one? i really like the idea of a sprint that looks totally stock shell.

I wonder why they are selling it like that? It looks like all the hard work has been done, surely it would make more sense to finish it & make so much more cash selling it as a complete car.

Makes me wonder if there is some sort of catch?

and dearer than having a 'genuine' Trickett conversion done, is it not? (assuming you have a shell to use to start with)

still, it looks like a nice and well executed job.

It is considerably more expensive than having Nev do you one, but the shell is included. Nev has recently done a Traveller & the cost was around E4,000

Yes looks well done, but as you say "wrong time to sell" he would have made much better money, if he finished it.

I thought that the work looked good, and the way they have shortened the rear to keep the roof dimensions is clever.
That price does seem a bit strong for an unknown conversion... or does it? What will it be worth finished?

Re the Sprints AOC960C and GMR4D there seem to be a lot of detail differences to be the same car. The front indicators, grille, number plate position, bonnet bulge, front badge, different tyres, and maybe the roof panel (but perhaps the ribs have been airbrushed out?) Also the headlamps look more level on AOC?

Also I was lucky enough to talk with Rob Walker when I was in the UK in 87 - he said the Traveller had a Collotti gearbox. I think he said it removed before his son took the car to Aus with him - I thought he said it went to Darwin? He wrote about the car in his column in Road and Track - I have the article somehwere.

I had heard a couple of years ago it had survived as just a shell - but it looks quite complete in that photo. There was another Sprint that went to Oz in the 60's - a new Stewart and Arden one that was on display in a Sydney Morris dealers showroom for a few months apparently.
