Re: Speedwell wheels
Well spotted, That's a pic of XFV taken earlier this year. It went to live in the States some years ago & that was the first picture I found when I went looking.

Re: Speedwell wheels
Anyone know what wheel nuts are being used on these wheels? the one picture of the silver coated wheel looks like a chrome dome head nut that has the early mk1/ 2 type taper , do these repo wheels have tapered inserts? as I have an original set no inserts as i use stainless sleeve nuts as fitted to Revolution or Mambas minispares part no REV 09 but have to cut down as to long Peter

Re: Speedwell wheels
The repro MWS Speedwells use a tapered nut design - MWS supplied the nuts with the wheels. I hope this helps Your Speedwell car looked nice Mark

Re: Speedwell wheels
Here is a pic of two early versions of the Speedwell wheel. The MWS wheel is near identical to the later version I think.

There were two beautiful cars at the Brandshatch Mini Festival of Speed last year (both were for sale if I remember correctly) with what I believe were MWS wheels. The Speedwell wheels on a Fiesta yellow car (or bakkie) is just stunning!

Re: Speedwell wheels
ended up doing the cheap option ,£80 second hand original D1 dunlops ,blast cleaned and sanded ,then took them for powder coating in gun metal grey £90 .look quite good I think . only problem with coating the hole wheel is its difficult to fit the tyre on ,without chipping the rim as mini wheels have to be fitted upside down so machine has to grip the outer rim!

Re: Speedwell wheels
Finally got a set of original speedwell wheels , very happy with them but surprised by the weight 7.5lb . I was led to believe they were magnesium?

Re: Speedwell wheels
That's strange . I had a set of original speedwell wheels and when I weighed them from what I can remember they were 2.89 kilo . Can't show you cos I've sold them to a mate of mine and he's now put on tyres and is using them . If he does a tyre swap il get him to check the weight and post it up on here .... Ken

I have also had a few sets of Speedwell Mini wheels & none have ever been Magnesium. I believe the VW ones were though.

I've recently acquired jbw speedwell wheels with yoko A008s,but only one tyre out of five will fit.i can use these tyres else where so my question today is what tyres have my fellow enthusiasts used on there speedwells ,also what was the preference for 145 or 165 . Also did they only do aqua jets in 145's back in the day cheers in advance davy..

Re: Speedwell wheels
I would like to know why the tyres don't fit. I have not heard of any issues with fitting tyres to these wheels before.
Aquajets were (I believe) a 70's tyre & were not available "in period", they were "originally" available in either 145 or 165.
