Where can I buy new mains bolts for a small bore engine? Good quality, not rubbish

Re: Small bore mains bolts
ARP are the only bolts I'll trust now for Mains and Big Ends.
I bought some for a small bore engine a couple of years back and was not remotely impressed with the 'genuine' fasteners supplied.

Somerford used to supply the ARP kit for the small bore, I bought them for my 997, but don't seem to have any left.
I did a quick search on the ARP site and couldn't fine them either.

When I got ARP ones, I couldn't find a kit. I bought bolts of the same length and thread from them. The caps are on dowels and so don't rely on the fasteners for location.Lakeland997 wrote:Somerford used to supply the ARP kit for the small bore, I bought them for my 997, but don't seem to have any left.

Only when I bought them from our local ARP supplier, I was able to purchase them singly.

Re: Small bore mains bolts
Just another thought - maybe (this could be dangerous!).
Years ago I used to use genuine Unbrako Cap Head bolts in the Big Ends on some of these engines.
While I haven't done it with the Mains, I can't see why not. In these sizes they are a Grade 10 HT Bolt. The factory ones were a Grade 8. If you can get proper HT Washers, use then with these bolts. A simple check to confirm if they are a HT Grade (of some sort), try bending them, it should crack and not bend. Bolts are 7/16" UNF x 2-1/2". Just check there's enough thread length on them. If there's not, don't be temped to increase the thread length by cutting it longer with a Die. The threads on these are rolled, not cut.
I'd still go for the ARPs first up but if they proved difficult to obtain, this maybe an option.

Re: Small bore mains bolts
I have one spare if you need one. I bought a set of 5 for a 998 using longer ones for the centre main cap.ricardo wrote:Thank you, always helpful!
Hope they sell one extra (?).
Use ARP washers too with the bolts 13/16" O/D I think. Will find the part number later. No lock tabs

Re: Small bore mains bolts
I'm using ARP washers with part number 200-8558 that has a 3/4" O/D.
Was planning on using cap head bolts with these washers but couldn't find any the correct length for the strapped centre cap. Have done this on other race engines in the past with no problems. MGB, Dolly Sprint ETC.
