Mechanical fuel pump - route of pipe to carb?

Post by Jono »

I am recommissioning an A+ engine in my Mini after a cam change and various other jobs, however I'm concerned regarding the route of the fuel pipe from the pump to the carb, a 1.75" single SU.

The pump outlet is very close to the LCB and I can't recall whether this was routed in metal or rubber tubing or a combination of both and where it was routed.

I do intend to change to an electric pump in due course, which will resolve this, but at present just want to get the existing set up working on a safe footing.

Could anyone advise on how to do this or better still post up a pic or two :?

Many thanks

Cheers

Metal pipe shaped and routed behind the exhaust with a 2" piece of rubber fuel hose either end to connect with pump and carb.

There is a section of tube correctly shaped. I'd think it would better line up with HIF carbs. I buy spark plug lead insulation and slide a section over the metal tube just to make me feel better. Here on the mid Atlantic coast USA it gets quite warm. I ended up replacing my mech. pump with electric due to vapor lock. My 1360 Cooper S engine tends to run 205 all the time no matter what I do. I have made a 1200 mile round trip with speeds up to 96 mph. With super two core, plastic fan, 180 thermostat, MGB recovery tank, Hif 44 w/ late Cooper air cleaner, and MPI exhaust. Steve (CTR)

Nice work, much better than how they were originally.
