Fuel pump wire.

Post by ChrisM »

Sorry.... Just a quick one.
67 negative earth car - White wire to the 12v terminal on the back of the pump, black wires to the screw on the body? It's a new neg earth SU pump from Burlen with the electronic guts.

Cheers - Chris.

Yes, the wiring you describe is correct for a negative earth car with a negative earth pump.

I was about to wire my fuel pump on my positive earth 1966 Cooper S.

Here is how I was going to do it based upon the wiring diagram.

This is the same wiring suggested for the negative earth car.

Please confirm.

If you check your wiring diagram you will find the white wire is a switched ignition feed (unfused), if you check with a meter & your battery is connected + positive to ground that feed will be - negative. The colour is the same British Standard used positive or negative earth the colour of the wires does not change, if the fuel pump is electronic make sure you have it correct, if it is points it will make no difference. ;)

Thanks Ronnie.
I rebuilt the original pump so it is using points.
So.. I am OK as pictured.
