Re: Old School rear beam axle
What exactly do you mean by "beam-axle"?
If you mean a subframe replacement tube section to swing the trailing arms from,
then I'd suggest using 80mm x 40mm box section. The kit from MiniSpares uses
3" x 2" (or 75mm x 50mm) but this sets the wheels too far back in the arches.

Mr Vizards original book has a little on the rear beam set up if you can find a copy.

beam axle back in the 60's 70's referred to a solid axle between the hubs and a triangular linkage using coil overs? RIPSPEED used to sell one we had it on the grass track racer

that's got to be the most complicated way I have ever seen of fitting mini stub axles in the end of the axle tube. But it is completely out wayed by the mounting for the axle in the car.Richspec wrote:http://16vminiclub.com/showthread.php?t=7372&page=7

That looks basically like the one we used but ours looked a whole lot more "Agricultural" and I seem to remember the triangular arms coming off the foot board? but it was over 40 years ago.......................

Yes, put the arm mountings on the strongest part of the shell, not the weakest.minimans wrote:That looks basically like the one we used but ours looked a whole lot more "Agricultural" and I seem to remember the triangular arms coming off the foot board? but it was over 40 years ago.......................
