Engine identification
I am in the middle of a mk2 Cooper restoration and think the engine that was in the car is a 997? its has 22g68 cast on the gear box and 12A204 on the side of the block? is this a 997 ?

Re: Engine identification
I have just looked at the head and the casting number is 12G295 which is a 998 Cooper so now i am even more confused? is it posible to fit a 998 head to a 997 block? or can a 997 block be modified to 998 spec?

Re: Engine identification
A 997 Cooper block can't be bored to 998.
A 998 Cooper head can be fitted to a 997 Cooper & will be a worthwhile improvement.
