great car! my pal had an A30 on wires which I think had a 1098 engine fitted. It was great fun, ang did big slides on roundabout at such a low speed- great fun.
Nice S4 seven next to it at the ACE cafe. a very discerning car the S4..........

I spotted this pick up at Croft Nostalgia last year. It has some competition history. Also, from memory, I think it was one of two, I think the other had the plate 3 DTN. It was modified with Sprite running gear and used in variuos forms of competition. No doubt I will see it again this year as it is a regular at shows in the North East.
PS Tadge, I like your turbo. I bet it surprises a few at the lights

Yes it can, but it surprises far more on the motorway,where we cruise with (or even past !) most of the traffic.I built it as a sleeper as I prefer it that way .It also adds a bit to the surprise when they realise that the combined age of car and driver is 128 !
The pictures and spec are now out of date as I am building a more potent engine and adding a more modern turbo,as well as a pair of Peter May halfshafts.
The wire wheeled pickup is well know in my Club for A35,s and, as above, was extensively raced in the sixties.Pickups are the rarest version of the A35, by a very long way

I have a modified A35 languishing in a garage. Only has a few period mods, but seeing that one does make me feel guilty about it, covered in dust and random gasket packs!

Some engine pics.
The one with the green plenum is the first instal of a turbo, about 5 years ago, no intercooler, still using a distributor.
Others are of the engine bay up till I took it off the road last September.
The last one is the engine presently underway.Spec is standard bore Midget block, standard Midget crank and rods (stood 7200 rpm at 15psi so far) Modified Metro turbo pistons (8.3:1 CR for higher boost)MG Metro normally aspirated cam (good for turbos)offset rocker bushes,Professionally modified head,Garratt GT1752 turbo from a Saab, 60mm exhaust and Megajolt mapped ignition (no distributor)
When run in this will be going on to a rolling road for needle profiling and final mapping of the Megajolt. I am hoping for well the right side of 150bhp, with up to 18psi boosthttp://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn10 ... G_0141.jpg[/IMG]

and people say my JanSpeed Turbo is a "tight" fit
very nice know of a guy who had a "Frogeye" with a Metro Turbo ingine.

If you do get one, best to buy one that needs work because you will be throwing away most of the mechanicals and will need to sort out the shell anyway.
All the repair sections to repair any part of the shell are available and cheap too.
If you can weld and are good at Meccano you can build an A35

I can, but that doesn't explain the lack of progress on the Lotus. I put it down to the garage being cold, so the prospect of a car with a roof looking tempting.tadge44 wrote:

In NZ we had a bad habit of chopping the roof down on these cars - here one done by Wellington racer Tom Donovan - thats his Lotus Twin Cam Sprite next to it. A30 had an FJ engine in it. I found the car engineless and abandoned on the side the road in about 1974 - we came back the next day with a tow rope but it had gone - to the dump apparently.
