Moulton Bicycle - Bicycle Of The Future 1963

Post by mab01uk »

In 1966 Alex Moulton brought out a 7/8 scale version of his original bicycle called the 'Mini Moulton'........I had a brand new one in 1967 for my tenth birthday in metallic blue! 8-)
Now all the classic Moultons are highly collectible.

Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire.
"Alex Moulton, well-known designer of suspension units for cars, has invented the first bicycle with suspension.
Shots of Moulton riding the bike down country lanes. C/U of prototype bike models. Moulton is shown with another man at a drawing board. Moulton holds bits of the bike against the design.
Shots of different stages of bicycle production in the workshop. Outside the completed bikes are lined up, Moulton and Commercial Manager, David Duffield, are seen testing out the suspension mechanisms. The bike has an adjustable seat and no cross bar so anyone can ride it!
Shots of Wendy Holbrook using the bike to go shopping. A man is shown using the 'stowaway' model - he takes the bike apart and places it in the boot of his car. John Tovey - a Moulton employee - demonstrates the racing version along a country road."

Hi mzmini, I wish I still had mine, good memories! Perhaps I should look for one as a nostalgia restoration project......would love to own a full size classic Moulton sometime.

ive had an old moulton for years, they are a great bike to ride

ive always lusted after one of the modern spaceframe ones, but they are mega money

one of my neighbours near my old flat in Harrogate had one, he must have thought I was a bit odd when I asked him if I could have a go on it! - it was a beauty
should you wish, you can contact me on rich@minispares.com

Bargain price for both! 8-)

From the previous link, this 1971 film also includes a white Mini Moke (SLD 1) driven by Peter Noone of 1960s pop group Herman's Hermits and features a very young Keith Chegwin.....

"There are some nice Moulton Mini shots in this classic cycle training film from the early 1970's"

Thanks Mab for the Moulton site info .. this was very interesting because i still have my Mothers "Moulton Standard" that she purchased when they first went on sale.. my memory says it was a bit weird & slow to ride .. maybe its now time i got around to a full Moulton Bike restoration.. we await to see if Original Parts such as early type Pedals are available?
