Door repairs

Post by Daz1968 »

Has anyone used the m machine door bottoms for mk1/2 doors, I have looked on mini spares and one they sell looks pretty useless, hopefully m machine one will be made in house and of good quality,

Thanks

ive had a couple of them and they are fine, you need to make the drain tubes fit.

the ones minispares sell are mk3 ones

It's this one I looked at on mini spares, looks quite bad and description does it no favours

I've used the m machine ones and found that there better than most . Some of the door repair panels on the market are crudely made and very wrinkled on the corners . ... Ken

Not sure if this will add anything but here goes. Back in 1992 I used the Magnum door bottom repair panels as they were the only thing available. They actually did the job OK but since then the tooling has clearly been damaged for the drivers side (40-10-13-2) as all the examples recently seen are horrendous where the double step is. The passenger side (40-10-13-1) tooling still seems to be OK and you should still get a reasonable job out of it. In the attached photo there is an original passenger side door bottom, a Magnum 40-10-13-1 passenger side panel (Black) and an MMachine 11.15.00.28 drivers side panel (steel). Both types are sold at a similar price and have some stretch marks but the Mmachine is less distorted. Have not tried to fit it yet but on face value it looks pretty good to me and much better than the Magnum, with a fully formed double pressing (Not that anyone ever sees it....)

Also, while I'm here - Although not in the Mmachine catalogue I ordered some MK1 rear valance closing panels (£15.75+VAT each) as was chuffed to find they were able to supply the earlier 'open' type which are longer with a strengthening bracket spot welded on. For the record these are 11.42.01.01E (LH) and 11.42.01.02E (RH), and the later type that are in the catalogue are 11.42.01.01 (LH) and 11.42.01.02 (RH) . Black panel in attached picture is a heritage ALA5525 panel for comparison.

Thanks, have already ordered m machine ones, but this picture shows I made best decision. They will be with me tomorrow along with a reworked mk2 spec front panel and correct smaller indicator plinths so at least I have some work to do the weekend

Will let you know when I get receipt tomorrow as didn't ask them, they don't fit the smaller indicator plinths so bought them seperate so will let you know price of them as well, they do give a discount for mcr membership as well.

Ok Thanks Daz ,

I wonder why they don't fit the indicators as a standard mod ?

They told me they are awkward to fit but I think it's probably because most don't bother about this feature
