Does anyone know if these are serviceable, I have bought a 61 and the button is seized and the previous owner has put a solenoid in the car with a low current button on the dash.

Can try soaking in wd40 but failing that best to find another one they appear to go for about £60 on eBay

Have had a good look at a NOS unit I have here...looks like the only possibility is as Daz suggested...try and get some WD40 or some other good rust eliminator down into the threaded shaft as indicated by the red arrow in this picture.

They can be opened up with care.

The issue is if the rod is corroded to the extent of seizing, usually the copper connectors inside the switch are badly corroded as well which makes the high current transfer required to start the car impossible.

If you clamp the body in a lathe chuck it is possible to roll the lip back so you can disassemble the switch. Be careful there are a bunch of bits inside that are under the pressure of the return spring and they can fly everywhere once the lip is far enough back.

It can be held in place with centre on the bottom of the switch.

could be dirt in the cup. Unscrew the button and clean it out.
