I run a 40955 on my standard 998 Cooper (or I did when it was on the road anyway). No problems at all. 40955's are very difficult to come by as you say although I have managed to find two 5/68's for my May '68 Cooper in the 30 years of ownership :shock:

Certainly if you can get a hold of an original dissy in reasonable working condition, you should be quite safe with that. The suggestion I put forward was just one as an option as I think the OP said he sold his and being what they are I think they'd be pretty hard to come by.
