Introduction of a new 145/10 tyre

Post by Metronick »

As you know the choice of 145/10 road tyres has steadily reduced over the years to the point where there are just a few budget brands available eg Camac, Falken and just the one premium brand, the Dunlop SP Sport/Aquajet.

The budget brands are ok and cheap enough, whilst the Aquajet is a great looking tyre but at over £100 each is for me expensive. It would be great to have something in between which looks right but is not quite as expensive ?

Blockleys have indicated they may be prepared to produce a 145/10 tyre to the old SP3 tread pattern with a period looking side wall. They have recently introduced this in larger sizes (see example pic for a Porsche) so that's how they'd look. Price wise they would fit somewhere between the budget priced tyres and the Aquajet.

For this to happen they need to know there is sufficient demand for the tyre, so what do you think? would you be interested ? I'll feedback the responses.

Cheers

Nick

THAT IS THE BEST NEWS I HAVE HEARD ALL WEEK!

I would put SP3 Blockleys on ALL my road going cars. Instantly!

I use Blockleys on my Dad's MG J2 & they are the vintage racing tyre of choice, superb quality!

I REALLY CAN'T WAIT!

Nick,

Is there any point in people contacting Blockley direct?

Its not just "another choice"!

It's a Quality tyre with a genuine 60s Dunlop pattern, made by a company that really care about vintage & historic tyres. This could be a real game changer!

Hi Mark,
I don't think it would do any harm at all.

The owner (he's historic racer Julian Majzub) just needs to know there is sufficient demand to warrant a production run.

Here's their website to give a flavour of what they do.

Looks good.

If the Blockley 145 tyre could be made available in a slightly softer compound that would be really useful, as the Falkens are not great in the wet.

I would be massively interested. I would be wanting 4 sets of 5 most likely. Especially if there as good as Mark exclaims!

We use Blocklys on a lot of cars at work and as has been said already the quality is great.

I would be interested in two sets.

Will they ship to Australia?

If so I'd be up for a set or two.

How many tyres do they need to consider before a production run would be considered?
