Hi, I need to replace both the driver and passenger door sliding Windows in my Mk1, the glass is all ok but I need to replace all the other sliders, runners etc etc, does anyone have any step by step fitting instructions or articles they can point me at, before I start dismantling?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks SA

I've recently done it to my car. This is the way I did it:
-Unscrew the screws from the lower channel into the door (should be 6?). Careful at this stage the windows don't fall out!
-Move the windows both in towards the middle, and pull the bottom edge out first and remove both windows and bottom channel as one piece.
-With the channel and windows on the bench you can remove the window catches and the glass from the channel.
-I then removed the old channel from the chrome runner. Remove old upper channel from door
-Install new upper channel. My set had a front and back - you could tell from the slits cut to allow it to go around the corners of the door frame
-Place the new lower channels over the chrome runner, there should be one way they go on where the majority of the drain holes line up
-Each end of the lower channel needs trimming to length, and the holes might need to be drilled for the retaining screws.
-Then put the windows and catches on the new lower channel, and put back in the car and install the screws.

Just to add that you'll need to seal between the chrome bottom rail and the door channel before you re-fit it. I use a non-setting compound like Plumbers Mait.
Sleep is my favourite thing in the world. It's what gets me out of bed in the morning.

This is not as easy as it sounds. Using the same screw holes is very important to maintain the width of the channel so that windows slide and the pins in the latches align with the locking holes. Finding the screw holes through the channel covered with flock is next to impossible. Mark the position of the holes on the edge of the door and then probe for the holes through the channel. If you use a drill for the holes in the channel the flock will windup around the bit. You'll struggle to get 3 screws in, at the ends and in the middle, which is good enough. What I did is crimp the middle ridge of the channel a little, not completely flat, to increase the width of the grooves for the windows. If you don't have help it might be easier if the doors are off and lying flat. Minis have many difficult jobs, this is one of them. Good luck.
