1098 Engine codes

Post by gs.davies »

I have a 1098 that I'm building up to put in my car and out of interest, started looking at what the code meant. I've been under the impression it was ex-Clubman '791' coded, but actually it's not.

Engine code is 10H515AA - it's not ADO16 as it was on a rod box and had the standard mini timing cover (I think the ADO16 timing plate incorporated an engine mount?)

Could this be an Allegro lump? Or perhaps a Mini Special?

I was under the impression that 515 coded engines were Allegro but my memory isn't what it was.....

Thanks for your help gentlemen. I'll count up the teeth on the pinion, presuming it's the 4.1:1 ratio which will be a bit frantic if I were to transplant it to the mini's wand box. Shame, was hoping it'd be a 3.44:1..

If the 4.1 hasn't many miles on it and it's surplus to your needs, I'd be an interested buyer.

Ok, I'll pull it out and see what it's like. I suspect it's in good shape, the engine was very good. If it's a goer I can bring to Blyton.

Cheers!

But, Blyton's a little far for me mate ;) (like about 12 000 miles too far!)

Edit: I've only just now up dated my profile, sorry for that!

Yes, might be a bit of a trek for you!

If it turns out the be ok, I could probably knock it down to the crown wheel and pinion and bung it in the post.

Definitely 15 teeth in the pinion.

Will get some pics in the next day or so.
